Continuous Oil Refinery


Continuous type oil refinery plant is recommended against the batch refining for higher capacity plants above 30 tons per day and for oils containing higher FFA content. This process line is bit expensive than batch process but it provides superior quality refined oil along with automation system and low processing cost.

Process description for continuous oil refinery plant

Continuous refinery line comprises of the following different processes:
- Degumming or Pretreatment Section
- Neutralizing Section
- Bleaching Section
- Deodorizing Section
- Dewaxing section

Continuous Degumming Neutralising

The Continuous Degumming section uses centrifuges for conditioning of soapstock (chemical refining) or gums (physical refining). Washing of oil is the next step.

Continuous Deacidification Deodorization

The Deodoriser is a double shell design with 5 stages. The oil is heated and drops to the prestripping section with open steam sparging. The carrier steam takes all the volatile components like fatty acid, tocopherols sterols etc. away. These are recovered in the fatty acid condensing system. The prestripping is done by mamuth pumps, the oil then flows to deodorizing section where steam sparging at full deodorizer vacuum takes place to yield a high quality heat bleached oil. Here complete deodorization of oils take place as residence time is high, the hot oil then enters a heat exchanger.

Continuous Laminar Bleaching

The oil is heated and sprayed into a drier section maintained under vacuum. The earth is dozed and agitation of oil and earth take place. There is no back mixing in this process. The oil is filtered through SS304 pressure leaf filters to minimise oil loss in spent earth.

Dewaxing of oils like sunflower involves crystallizing of waxes. These waxes are then separated using special pressure leaf filters
